ICF Core Competency Calls

ICF Core Competency Calls -

Our calls occur every 3rd Wednesday afternoon at
3:00pm EST / 2:00pm CST / 1:00pm MST / 12:00pm PST / (7:00pm GMT)

Bridgeline: 218.862.3486 Pin: 6969#

Join coaches from all over the world, for these unique and powerful community calls as we spend a single hour exploring ICF’s eleven Core Competencies, one at a time. It is a fun and lively format to challenge your understanding of the core competencies and receive CCEU's at the same time.

It's easy. It's fun. No need to sign up, just show up. All coaches are invited (and that means YOU).

Ben Dooley, PCC, Coaching Confidence and Excellence Coach to all coaches as well as Past President of the International Coach Federation - Chicago, leads the discussion and has an open and welcoming manner that promotes a trusting environment that creates a desire to explore all levels of the ICF Core Competencies. Come ready to share your questions, your opinions, your knowledge, and your experience. Ben's sturdy presence, gentle prodding, sparkling humor and seemingly endless bag of tricks, creates the perfect container to engage all participants to work together to deepen your learning, increase your knowledge and share ideas and tips with coaching colleagues.

Ben also facilitates “The Coaching Skills Forum”. Same format, different series, twice a month, covering over 60 coaching skills in an engaging, proactive and playful conversation format. “Core Competency" CCEUs are also available. http://www.bedo.org/coaches/skills-calls.html

ICF Core Competency Calls - FAQs

Q: What makes the CORE COMPETENCY CALLS different from all the other core competency calls out there? A: Great question. These calls are completely interactive and encourage participation from all coaches attending. It’s not just a place where one can go and listen to a coach talk about what they know or think about our coaching, it’s where coaches from all over, of all levels of experience gather to share wisdom, thoughts, insights and questions. Going beyond a single training or school, it’s like tapping into all the coaching schools and training out there to create a collective exploration of our coaching skills.

Q: Why are you doing this? A: Very simply, although the training curriculum in most coaching schools are quite extensive and very powerful, there is only so much time that the instructors and leaders can devote to the teaching of each skill. Also, although the definitions of these skills are quite simple, the understanding and application can be vast and complex. This is not meant to replace any Coach training, but to be used as a tool to enhance and strengthen your comprehension and ability to effectively utilize these skills with your clients for even greater results.

Q: Who are the people on the call?
A: All the coaches involved are from a wide range of training and experience. There are some who are just beginning their training and the learning of these skills, while others have been coaching successfully for years. Any and every coach is welcome to participate, because in the forum design, we all get to learn from each other's brilliance.

Q: Can I participate?
A: Of course. But remember, this is not meant to replace the training that you'll get in Coaching schools. And don't worry about your level of experience. If you're new at this, you'll be able to provide great insight to all of us who have forgotten the basics. And if you've been at it for some time, you just might learn something as well as pass on your deep wisdom. All are invited. Be advised that the list of skills comes directly from the ICF so there may be some terminology and jargon involved. However, it's pretty simple to interpret.

Q: Is there a charge for any of this?
A: Nope. The calls are free for all who want to jump in and play. However, if you're wanting to receive CCEU credit, there will be a small processing fee.

Q: Can I get any coaching credit for these calls?
A: YES!!! We are approved by the ICF to issue 1.0 CCEU (Continued Coach Education Unit) credit under “Core Competencies” (which can be a hard credit to find so easily). All you have to do is participate (or listen to the archived recording of the call) and during the call I'll provide the special PASSWORD you'll need to get the certificate. To receive your credit, simply click the one of the proper corresponding buttons above. Once you're clicked your particular button (and either made your payment or sent me an email) I'll send you a corresponding certificate for you to download and keep for your records. You'll need to submit a copy of these certificates when you reapply. Please include the DATE and TOPIC for the call and the secret PASSWORD. This is important as I also have other calls going on as well as people listening to the archived recordings and that information will help me easily send you the correct certificate.

Q: Wait, can I also get credit for any of the archived recordings?
A: You certainly can! In fact, the ICF allows up to 6 “self-study” credits, so you can pick your favorite 6 and get credit for listening to the archived recordings. However, I’m going to appeal to your integrity and coaching professionalism. This limit was established to prevent coaches from just passively listening to a recording while doing email or something else and then claiming tons of credits without having really learned anything. The whole purpose for the renewal process is to call coaches forth to continually grow and deepen our coaching skills and development. So instead of looking at this as a “live” and “recorded” call conversation, let’s look at it as an Active and Passive Listening experience. So my only request (as I would have if you were on the actual call) is that you "actively listen" to the recordings, instead of popping them on and then mowing the lawn, doing the dishes, or other activities that would distract you from the informative content. This way, recorded or live, you’re growing your coaching powerfully. And please remember, that while you can only get credit for 6 archived calls, you can acquire as many live call credits as you want. So please make sure you’re able to be on the call to give you the greatest number of possible credits.

Q: Can I get credit for listening to different calls of the same topic?
A: You bet your sweet bippy.

Q: But that doesn't make sense. That means I'm getting multiple credits for the same learning.
A: On the contrary. Due to the nature of the forum, there are different people on the call, each contributing different information. Different questions are asked. And even with the same questions, because there is such a vast range and depth in our coaching skills, the answers are invariably different. So really, even though the topic is the same, the content of the calls are very different.

Q: I can't listen to them now, but I want to later. Can I save them to my computer or MP3 player?
A: That, as well, is quite simple. Of course, you can just go back to the top of this page and click on whatever skill you'd like to listen to and a new window will open and start playing the file. You can also "right click" the skill and choose the option to "Save As" and then you can download it right to your desktop.

Q: These calls are absolutely wonderful...
A: Thank you. I think so, too. And they are truly wonderful because coaches just like you participate and make each and every call rich with amazing insight to our coaching skills. I truly believe that these calls are an invaluable resource to any coach, no matter what level of experience. So thank you for your participation.

Q: You’re welcome, but that wasn’t my question.
A: Oh, sorry. I’m just so proud of these calls. I think they're some of the most amazingly consistent coach development calls available. What was your final question?

Q: Well, I was just wondering if there were any other calls that you might recommend.
A: Ah yes, great question. And funny you should ask, because I also facilitate another series of calls that have a more detailed focus on our coaching skills. The COACHING SKILLS FORUM is also is also free and open to all coaches as well as provides CCEU’s for participation. We gather twice a month on a different line and break apart our Core Competencies into 60 separate coaching skills. These are some of the most powerful and exciting coach growing calls out there, rich with coach participation, insight, and great learning. They occur every 2nd Tuesday morning and every 4th Wednesday of every month, and there are over 100 archived calls as well to listen to. You can learn more about them at The Coaching Skills Forum website www.bedo.org/coaches/skills-calls.html
